David Beckham retires
David Beckham recently announced his retirement. He has been a legendary soccer player and he has been an ambassador for US soccer. When he played for the LA Galaxy he made the sport more popular to Americans. Beckham will be missed throughout the soccer world.
Rooney Done at MU
There are rumors out there that the most storied soccer team ever Manchester United sold Wayne Rooney to Paris Saint German for a whopping 39 million dollars. PSG has made some big moves in the past few years buying Zlatan Ibrahimovic among other big names, and even tried to acquire Christiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. Manchester United was trying to get more touches for star striker Robin Van Persie and would do so if they in fact sold Rooney. The manager of MU claims he never was in transfer talks about Rooney and that he is "an essential part of our success".

FIFA has denied Costa Rica's request for a rematch against the United States. The US won 1-0 last week. However, the game was played in a snowstorm. Costa Rica claims the field markings were not visible so the game should not have been played. FIFA ultimately decided no to allow a rematch.

Today, Iker Casillas, the goalkeeper for Real Madrid, has returned to practice for the first time since breaking his hand two months ago. Now that he is back, he will have to compete against Deigo Lopez for the starting job. This could be interesting because they are 2 of the best 3 keepers in the world. Real Madrid will play in the Copa del Ray finals against FC Barcalona in April.

Last night, Micheal Owen announced that he is going to retire at the end of this season. He has played on Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and is currently playing on Stoke. He also played for England's national team where he scored 40 goals in 89 appearances. His career has been filled with injuries yet he has managed to stay successful. He is 33 years old.

Tonight, Arsenal and Bayern Muchich face off in a Champions League quarterfinal match. The series is currently tied at 1-0-2 each. The winner of this match will advance to face FC Barcelona, who just pulled off a 2-0 comeback, in the semis. I think this match could go both ways. Robin Van Persie, an Arsenal Attacker, is leading the tournament in scoring but one goal behind him is Muchich's Mario Gomez. I think this game will result in a 1-1 draw. In this case, Arsenal would advance because they have scored 1 more goal than Bayern in this series.

In a best out of five series in the Champions League quarterfinals, AC MIlan had a 2 games to none lead over FC Barcelona. Not only that, Milan had a total goal advantage of 5-0. Today, Lionel Messi and Barca capped the historic comeback with a 4-0 win over AC Milan. Messi scored two goals and assisted the two goals by David Villa and Jordi Albi. This was the first time in the FIFA history. The final point difference was 8-7. FC Barcelona will advance to the semifinals.
